In 1938, the Gestapo arrived at Adolf Bloch´s family home in Frankfurt, Germany. During the visit, one of the Gestapo´s agent had an earache, and Adolf´s wife, who was a nurse, relieved his pain. In gratitude, the agent told her that she and her family should leave Germany immediately, since they were jews and they were in great danger. Bloch decided to move the family to New York, where he had lived as a young man.
Ernest Hermann Bloch, hijo de Adolf Bloch, nació en Frankfurt en 1913, de madre suiza y padre alemán. Creció en Zuoz, cerca de St. Moritz, Suiza, donde aprendió a esquiar, aunque su primera pasión fue el hockey sobre hielo.
Ernest Hermann Bloch, Adolf Bloch son, was born in Frankfurt in 1913, to a Swiss mother and German father. He grew up in Zuoz, near St. Moritz, Switzerland, where he learn to ski, although his first passion was ice hockey.
Tras llegar a los Estados Unidos, Ernie tuvo algunos trabajos relaccionados de alguna manera con el esquí y conoció Rhoda Limburg, una chica de Nueva York, en la llegada de un telesquí en Stowe, Vermont. Se casaron en 1942.
After arriving in the United States, Ernie had a few jobs somehow related to the ski industry and he eventually met Rhoda Limburg, a New York City girl, at the top of a ski lift in Stowe, Vermont. They married in 1942.
Tras recibir la nacionalidad americana, Ernie se presentó voluntario en la 10th Mountain Division, pero no fue aceptado debido a sus orígenes alemanes, y que el ejercito pensó que puediera ser un espía. A pesar de eso, mas tarde seria aceptado por el ejercito como agente de inteligencia debido a su conocimiento de la lengua alemana.
After receiving US citizenship in 1943, Ernie volunteered for the 10th Mountain Division, but he was turned down because of his German background the Army thought he might be a spy. Howevwer, later on he was accepted by the Army as an intelligence officer because of his fluent German.
Fue ya, como agente de inteligencia del ejercito, que Ernie Bloch cambió su nombre por el de Ernie Blake y fue enviado a Europa tras el desembarco de Normandía, y destinado como interprete en el cuartel general del General Patton, formando parte del l contingente americano que encontró el primer campo de concentración en Alemania en 1945.
It was as an Army intelligence officer that Ernie Bloch became Ernie Blake, and that he was sent to Europe following the Normandy invasion. He became an interpreter attached to General Patton´s headquarter and was part of the American contingent that encountered the first concentration camp in Germany in 1945.

During and after the war, Ernie helped to interrogate several German prisoners, among them some of the most dedicate Hitler´s followers such as Hermann Goering, Wilhelm Keitel and Albert Speer.

Stauffenberg, Oster, Tresckow y Fabian han sido nombradas en honor de oficiales del ejercito alemán que intentaron matar a Hitler en Julio de 1944 en uno de los mas famosos intentos de asesinato del Führer.
Taos Ski Valley would start operating in 1955 and some of the ski runs are related to Ernie´s personal background. Stauffenberg, Oster, Tresckow and Fabian were named after the German officers who attempted to kill Hitler in July 1944 in one of the most famous plots to assassinate the Führer.
Ernie falleció en 14 de Enero del 1989. En su funeral le fue otorgado el titulo de miembro honorario de la 10th Mountain Division y sus cenizas fuerón esparcidas sobre su montaña.
Ernie died on January 14, 1989. At his funeral he received an honorary membership into the 10th Mountain Division and his ashes were scattered on his mountain.
