At the Winter Olympics of Turin 2006, the French skier Deneriaz won the downhill by 72 hundredths of a second. It was the biggest gap between a gold and a silver medal since the 1948 Olympic Games in St. Moritz, when another French skier, Henri Oreiller, picked up another downhill gold medal with an advantage of 78 hundredths of a second.
