>Born in Saint Cloud in 1943, Jean-Claude Killy was brought up in the French ski resort of Val d’Isère, where he started skiing at the age of 5. In 1959 he was a member of the alpine skiing French team. He became the leader of that team at the age of 21. He reached his first international victory in 1966, when he became world champion in downhill and combined during the World Championships held in Portillo, Chile.
Killy ganó la copa del mundo de esquí alpino en los años 1967 y 1968, con un total de 18 pruebas ganadass en su carrera.
Killy won the alpine skiing World Cup in 1967 and 1968. He had already won 18 races during his career.
Su plaza entre los mejores de la historia del esquí alpino la consiguio en los Juegos Olímpicos de invierno de Grenoble (1968), al ganar la medalla de oro en las pruebas de descenso, slalom gigante y slalom especial, lo que hasta entonces solo había logrado el austríaco Toni Salier
He conquered a place among the best in the history of alpine skiing during the Winter Olympic Games held in Grenoble in 1968, when he won the gold medal in downhill, giant slalom and special slalom. That was something only Austrian Toni Salier had done before.
Killy retired from competition in 1968 but came back again in 1972 and 1973.
Hoy sigue disfrutando de un enorme prestigio y uno de los mas prestigiosos dominios de esqui del mundo lleva su nombre, el Espace Killy, formado por las estaciones de Val d´Isère y Tignes.
Nowadays, he still enjoys a great prestige in the world of ski. In fact, one of the best known ski centres bears his name, Espace Killy, formed by the resorts of Val d’Isère and Tignes.
