Park City: A pistas por la mina - To the slopes by the mine

En la estacion americana de Treasure Mountain Resort (hoy conocida como Park City) se utilizaron los antiguos tuneles de una mina para transportar esquiadores, creandose el primer remonte subterráneo del mundo en una estación de esqui.

At the american ski resort of Treasure Mountain (now known as Park City, the tunnels of an ancient mine were used to transport skiers to the slopes, thus creating the first underground lift to be used in a ski resort worlwide

Park City, en Utah, es hoy una de las principales estaciones de esqui de los Estados Unidos.
Pero su fundacion resultó de la apertura de las minas en la region, muchas de ellas bajo las montañas donde hoy se esquia.
Park City, in Utah, is currently one of the main ski resorts in USA.
However, it´s foundation resulted from the opening of mines in the region, many of them deep below the mountains where people ski at the present days.

Se empezó a esquiar en esas montañas en los años 20 del siglo XX.
People started skiing in those mountains in the 20´s of the 20th century.

Se realizaron concursos de saltos.
Ski jumping contests where held there.

Y mas tarde se instalaron los primeros remontes.
Later on, the first ski lifts where built.

Con el fin de la extracion de mineria, Park City se vació, y en 1951 estaba clasificada como una "ciudad fantasma".
With the end of mining explotation, Park City became empty and, in 1951, it was considered to be a «ghost town».

Pero la industria del esqui estaba en pleno desarollo, y, en 1960, se seguía intentando instalar una estación de esqui en las montañas de Park City.
However, there was a boom at the ski industry and, in 1960, some peolple were triyng to build a ski resort in the mountains of Park City.

En 1965, la estacion, que entonces se llamaba Treasure Mountains Resort, decidió utilizar uno de los antiguos túneles de la mina para transportar esquiadores, y asi se creó el primer remonte subterráneo del mundo en una estacion de esquí.
In 1965, the resort, which was then called Treasures Mountain Resort, decided to use the tunnels of an ancient mine to transport skiers to the slopes, thus creating the first underground lift to be used in a ski resort worlwide.

Se utilizaron coches especialmente construídos para transportar esquiadores por el recorrido ya existente dentro de la montaña.
Special cars were built to carry skiers by the previously built tunnel inside the mountain.

El «skiers subway» transportaba a los esquiadores en una distancia de casi 5 km hasta un antiguo elevador de transporte de mineros.
Yhe «skiers subway» transported skiers through a distance of almoust 3 miles to an old mining elevator.

Ese elevador subia 550m hasta la superficie...
The elevator ascended 1.700 feet to ground level...

...donde estaban los remontes de la estacion.
...where the resort ski lifts were.>

El «Skiers subway» solo fué utilizado durante 4 temporadas, hasta 1969, ya que, por su lentitud, no era demasiado apreciado por los esquiadores.
The «skiers subway operated only for 4 years, until 1969, since it was very slow and skiers didn´t appreciated it.
