Dick Durrance (1914-2004) was the best ski racer in America, being the first American skier to succefully compete with European skiers. He also became interested in photographing his sport and, after retiring from his racing career, he and his wife,
Margaret Durrance (1917-2002), who was named on the U.S. Olympic Ski 1940 (because of World War II those Olympics were never held) dedicated themselves to document the emergence of the most important ski resorts in the American West, such as
Alta,
Aspen and
Sun Valley in photographs.
