The Kandahar Ski Club was founded on 30th January 1924 to promote downhill and slalom racing, pursuing the international recognition of this kind of sporting events.

La reunión fundacional se celebro en el Palace Hotel de Mürren, y en ella estaban presentes: Anthony Angas, (el primer presidente), Duncan Harvey, (secretaria honoraria), Lady Mabel Lunn, Mrs. Dora Fox, Capitán H. Strickland, A.H. D'Egville, Geoffrey Samuelson, y Sir Arnold Lunn, Mr. Bedford Russell, ausente en aquella reunión fue elegido vicepresidente del club.Durante dicha reunión se debatió cual seria el nombre del club, fue Sir Arnold Lunn quien propuso que se llamase igual que la más antigua de las carreras de descenso de esquí: “The Roberts of Kandahar”.
The club’s first meeting was held at the Palace Hotel in Mürren and was attended by Anthony Angas (first chairman), Duncan Harvey (honorary secretary), Lady. Mabel Lunn, Mrs. Dora Fox, Captain H. Strickland, A.H. d’Egville, Geoffrey Samuelson and Sir Arnold Lunn. Mr. Bedford Russell, though absentee, was elected deputy chairman. During that meeting the name of the club was discussed. Sir Arnold Lunn proposed to name it after the oldest downhill challenge cup, “The Roberts of Kandahar”

Este nombre fue bien acogido por los miembros fundadores. Y algunas ideas mas se propusieron, sin embargo fue A.H. d' Egville quien levantando la voz dijo: “No, nada de eso. Algo sencillo, sólo una K”.
The name was backed by all the founders. There were some other proposals, but A.H. d’Egville raised his hand and said “no, nothing of the kind. Just a simple K”.

De esta manera, el ‘Kandahar’ se convierte en el primer Club de esquí Alpino de Competición del mundo. Las reglamentación para las pruebas del descenso y del slalom fueron dictadas y aplicadas por el KSC bajo la dirección de Sir Arnold Lunn, y posteriormente darían lugar a la organización del primer Campeonato del mundo en la ciudad suiza de Mürren en 1931 y posteriormente en 1935
So the 'Kandahar' became the first alpine ski racing club in the world. The rules for downhill and slalom racing were decided and applied by the KSC under Sir Arnold Lunn’s supervision. Those races lead to the organization of the first Alpine skiing World Championship in the Swiss town of Mürren in 1931 and later in 1935.

Siendo estas dos únicas ocasiones en la historia de este deporte, en que un país a organizado un campeonato mundial fuera de sus fronteras.
These were the only times in the history of this sport in which a country organized a world championship outside its territory.
Desde el principio el 'Kandahar' ha tratado de organizar carreras y actividades para todos sus miembros, no solo para los esquiadores de elite. Así cada año durante una semana organiza en Mürren carreras para sus socios y que culminan con la Inferno Race, donde en los últimos años mas de cien socios del KSC han competido en ella, También organizan carreras en otros países incluyendo una que forma parte del calendario FIS.
El Kandahar es un club privado donde para ser admitido, el aspirante ha de ser avalado por alguno de los esquiadores en activo y secundado por algunos miembros del club, antes de que su solicitud sea estudiada por la junta directiva. En caso de ser admitido pasa a ser uno de los 1000 socios que tiene como limite el KSC.
El ‘Kandahar’ no tiene ningún empleado, todos los puestos directivos son ocupados de forma voluntaria y aunque oficialmente su sede social esta en Mürren, la mayoría de sus reuniones se celebran en Londres.

From the very beginning, the Kandahar Ski Club tried to organize races and activities for all members and not only for elite skiers. Therefore, every year a number of races are held in Mürren for a whole week for all Kandahar members. That racing and training week culminates with the Inferno Race the longest downhill race in the world. In recent years, about 100 members have taken part each year.
Other Kandahar races are run each year, not necessarily in Mürren, including one that is part of the FIS calendar. They are held by, and at the expense of, the Kandahar Ski Club on behalf of the British Ski and Snowboard Federation.
The Kandahar is a private membership club where any competent skier can be admitted, provided that he or she is introduced by another active skier and backed by several club members. Only in those cases, the request of membership is discussed by the board. If admitted, that skier becomes one of the 1.000 members of the club.
The 'Kandahar' has no paid staff. All officers and directors are volunteers and, though the official headquarters are in Mürren, most board meetings are held in London.

Y que fue además de gran alpinista, un gran esquiador.Irvine, gano defendiendo los colores de la universidad de Oxford, durante el invierno de 1923-1924, la ‘Strang Watkins Callenge Cup’ en Murren.
Among the first club members there are a lot of celebrities of those times. One of them was Andrew Irvine, who disappeared while climbing the Everest. He was also a great skier. Irvine won the 'Strang Watkins Challenge Cup' in Mürren during the winter of 1923-1924 while racing with the Oxford ski team.

También cabe destacar como anécdota la pertenencia a dicho club de Roger Bushell,Que murió a manos de la GESTAPO en la II-GM después de haberse escapado tres veces de los campos de prisioneros alemanes.
Another prominent member was Roger Bushell. Bushell was killed by the GESTAPO during the Second World War, after running away of German prison camps for three times.
