We interviewed Mario Escobar, Comercial Manager of La Parva ski Center, so he can tell us about last summer and the news for this ski season.
--¿Qué tal fue el funcionamiento del centro en verano?ME(Mario Escobar): Este es el tercer verano que tenemos funcionando el bike park en el centro, donde la gente sube con su bicicletas por la silla Águilas, permitiéndoles de esta manera realizar bajadas bastante largas. Además como somos la puerta de entrada a la cordillera de Los Andes, para los sectores Valle del Plomo, El Pintor entre otros, nos permitió subir una alta cantidad de andinistas, ya que le ahorramos un tramo grande con el andarivel. Para ellos (andinistas) creamos un ticket especial, pudiendo subir el viernes y bajar el domingo con el mismo ticket, siendo de esta forma un producto muy conveniente para ellos, de hecho aumentamos el número de ellos en torno a un 35%. También La Municiplaidad de Lo Barnechea nos apoyó con un bus que subía gratuitamente sábados y domingos. Por lo tanto puedo decir que el balance sobre nuestro funcionamiento en verano es muy bueno.
¿What about last summer on the ski center?
ME (Mario Escobar): This was the third summer that we had working the bike park, where the people could go up using Las Aguilas ski-lift, so they can go down in a longer track. Also, we are the entrance for Los Andes mountains on the Plomo's Valley (Valle El Plomo), like the El Pintor, and that allowed us to had more climbers, because we save them a long path walking because they used the ski-lift to get to the top. For them, we created a special ticket, using it on friday to go up and on sunday to go down, and this was a good offer for them. In fact, we increased the ticket selling in a 35%. Furthermore, The "Municipalidad de Lo Barnechea" (district council), supported us with a free bus on saturdays and sundays. So I can say that the balance for last summer was really good
--¿ Se vio afectada La Parva por el terremoto?
ME:Tuvimos una revisión de expertos franceses, constructores de andariveles, donde se revisaron torres, cables, todo y no tuvimos ningún problema. Todo estará funcionando.
What was the impact of the earthquake on La Parva?
ME: A group of french experts, ski-lift builders, checked towers, cables, and all the stuff and we didn't have problems. Everything is going to be working normally.
--Cambiando de tema y ya pensando en el invierno, supimos de la instalación de una alfombra mágica...ME: Nuestra alfombra mágica, que estará en el sector Golondrina en la zona de escuela, que con un largo de 100 mts, ayudará mucho en el proceso de aprendizaje de los alumnos al ser un sistema muy cómodo. Es Como una correa transportadora de los aeropuertos, donde la gente se sube a esta banda, la que los lleva hasta arriba, evitando los andariveles de arrastre o cuerda que para un principiante pueden ser más díficiles. Estamos muy contentos con este producto.
Talking about another thing and thinking about this winter, we knew that you installed a magic carpet...
ME: Our Magic carpet, wich is going to be at the Golondrina school area, is going to be 100mts long, and will help with the learning process because is an easeful system. Is like the belt conveyor on the airports, where the people walk into this belt, wich is going to leave you on the top, avoiding the telescopic or rope ski-lift wich are really difficult for begginers. We are really happy with this new product.
--¿Qué otras novedades nos puede contar?
ME: Otro producto importante es que por la compra de pase de temporada, el pase del hijo menor de 5 años es completamente gratis. Es un sistema único en Chile que busca fidelizar a nuestros clientes de pase de temporada. Tambien tenemos un nuevo pisanieve, por lo que serán 9 los pisanieve que trabajarán en pistas, para obtener un pisado de alta calidad y rapidez. También este invierno se abrirá el Valle de Fabres con nombre de pistas...
What else can you tell us about La Parva?
ME: Another new product, is about the full season pass. If you buy a full season pass, the ticket for the boy smaller than 5 years is free. This is an unic system in Chile and the idea is to gain loyalty with our season pass clients. Beside that we have a new snow groomer, son now we have 9 snow groomers that will work on the tracks, to get faster and high quality tracks. Furthermore, this winter is opening the Fabres Valley with track's names....
--Sobre Valle de Fabres, ¿es cierto que se construirá un nuevo andarivel?
ME: sí, es efectivo. El 2011 se instalará este nuevo andarivel.
--¿Se puede adelantar si es de arrastre o silla?
ME: Va a ser Telesilla.
About Fabres Valley, it is truth that you are going to build a new Ski-Lift?
ME: Yes it is. On 2011 we are going to install it.
May you tell us about it, is going to be a dragging ski-lift or a chairlift?
ME: Is going to be a Chairlift.
--¿El Snowpark continúa?ME: sí, continúa funcionando, tanto para esquiadores como snowboarders. Tendremos nuevos módulos y funcionará en el mismo lugar, osea a la salida del telesilla Alpha frente al 3100.
The Snow Park is going to be open?
ME: Yes, is going to be working this season, for skiiers and snowboarders. We'll have new units and is going to be at the same place, next to "El Alpha" Chairlift, in front of the 3100.
¿Qué otros productos ofrecerá La Parva?
ME: Este invierno tenemos travesías en raquetas, que permite a la gente hacer paseos en la nieve sin necesidad de saber esquiar, ya que estas raquetas permiten avanzar sin hundirse en la nieve. Para esta actividad tendremos a un guía especializado y ya hay varias rutas diseñadas. También ofreceremos ski Randoneé y ski de fondo, con pistas diseñadas para estas disciplinas. Esto nos abre el espectro para darle la posibilidad a la gente de que pruebe otras disciplinas. Nuestro rental tendrá Equipos de Ski Randoneé y Fondo disponibles para su arriendo.
Otro producto importante es la "baby Escuela" que apunta a niños menores de 5 años, donde a través de un aprendizaje entretenido, los niños van tomando contacto con la nieve y también van aprendiendo a esquiar. No es un sistema tan intenso como una clase privada o colectiva, si no que acá los siños aprenden con entretención. Si se cansan pasan a la baby escuela donde están las parvularias, pudiendo jugar, compartir sus experiencias con actividades de pintura, dibujo, música, etc. Además almuerzan ahi mismo y después vuelven a la clase. Todo esto se traduce en un aprendizaje entretenido.
También tendremos 2 plazas de juegos con iluminación solar ubicadas en Manzanito y Golondrina, donde la familia podrá disfrutar de juegos y excelente vista después del ski. Otra cosa que encontrarán los visitantes serán Miradores La Parva, sectores destacados dentro del centro de ski donde se puede disfrutar de la vista y entorno de la cordillera. Por último habrán Paneles informativos en sectores destacados del centro, donde informarse de la cultura incaica (momia del plomo), flora y fauna cordillerana, control y seguridad de avalanchas, ciclo del agua (de liquido a nieve), material de ski (tipos y técnicas)...
What other products is going to offer to its customers?
ME: This winter, we are going to have snowshoe tours, that allow tours into the snow without skiing level, because this snowshoes allow to walk over the snow without sink on it. For this activity we'll have a specialized guides and there are a few routes. Also, we'll offer Randoneé skiing and cross-country skiing, with some special tracks for that. This will give us more chances for our guests. Our rental store is going to have Randoneé Skies and cross-country skies for rental.
Another new product is our "Baby School" wich aims to smaller than five years kids, where the learning is going to be funny, kids are knowing the snow for first time and they are learning to skiing. It is not so hard than a private or colective class, but the kids learn in a funny way. If they get tired, they go to the baby school, where there are some kindergarden teachers, and they can play, share experiences with painting, drawing and music activities. Besides they have lunch at the same place and after that they came back to classes.
Also, we are going to have two playgrounds for kids illuminated with solar energy at Manzanito and Golondrina, where the family will enjoy games and a beautyfull view after skiing. Another good thing that the visitors will find are th differents viewpoints on La Parva, special places at the ski center where you'll enjoy the view and the landscapes. Finally, we'll have information panels in different places, where the customers will find information about the inca culture (El Plomo's mummy), mountain flora and wildlife, avalanche security, water cycle (from water to snow), ski material (types and techniques)...
--¿Alguna competencia importante que se pueda adelantar?ME: sí, haremos una escalada en hielo que será nocturna en el período de vacaciones de invierno; el circuito master y otras sorpresas que vendrán por ahí.
Some important competition that it is possible to be advanced?
ME: Yes, we will have a night ice climbing during the winter season; the master circuit and other surprises.
