Howard Head revolutionized the ski industry when he founded Head Ski Company in 1948 to develope a project for the manufacturing of the first metal laminate skis.

Inspired in his aeronautical engineering skills learnt while working in that industry, Howard Head founded his own company in 1948, the Head Ski Company, to produce skis.
En su empresa, Howard Head desarrolló el proyecto de los primeros esquis laminados en metal, hechos de dos capas de aluminio formando un «sándwich» con un interior compuesto de madera y plástico prensado.
There he developed the fist metal laminate skis. They were made of two aluminium layers with a center filling of honeycomb plastic, in a structure similar to a sandwich. This allowed greater control and proficiency for both beginners and expert skiers
