1 Introduction./
Introducción.
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the inline-skating competence practiced in physical education class in high school, allows for the transfer of similar motor patterns to facilitate the successful, safe and consistent motor learning of a risky and technical sport such as alpine skiing. Subjects (It51) were divided into two group& the experimental or skating group (N=25) and the control group who not only skated, but also practised basketball and volleyball (N=26). Each subject participated in five consecutive days of practice in alpine skiing during the acquisition stage. Then, after a week of no skiing practice, the subjects skied one additional day during the retention test. Analysis of the variables indicated significant improvement in the skating group (EG) either during the fifth day of skiing ability measurement or during the retention test. These findings suggest that inline-skating practice helps the subsequent learning of alpine skiing skills.
Researchers in motor learning have investigated the transfer process as an important topic in the acquisition of motor skills. The theory of similarity or identical elements, explained by Thomdike and Woodworth (1901, quoted by Schmidt. 1988) and Thomdike (1935, quoted by Castejon et al, 2003), emphasizes the dependence of identical elements among the tasks to be transferred when there are similarities between the old and the new ones, although they do not specify either the descriptive character or the experimental measurement of those elements. This idea was later explained by Gagne (1991) in his theory of Identical elements (Yariez, 2004), which could explain the relationship of balance and rotation in learning both inline-skating and alpine skiing.
On the other hand, the theory of generalization by Judd (1905, quoted by Casteion y otros, 2003), states that the student can recognize and set up first notions that connect skills if the learning processes share similar configurations. He points out that the student uses general rules when similar tasks are carried out.
Otla el al (1999) seem to favour the theory of transportation, which can be considered an extension of the previously described theory. The student sets up cause-and-effect relationships in his tasks, and can use the same means in situations ruled by the same criteria. That is why people must transfer elements from one situation or set of motor skills to another in an active and conscious way.
Studies and analyses of Schmidt's (1975) schema theory (Ruiz, 1994: quoted by Caster et al. 2003) point out the creation of general programmes obtained by the information learned and retained by people though motor training/practice is activated in those situations with invariable features, and then an individual sets up action diagrams from the characteristic elements and the information resources, initial conditions, main features in the motor reply, sensorial consequences of actions and the results they get from these actions.
Based on all of these theories, "transfer" is the phenomenon that makes significant learning positively influence prior and subsequent achievements of the same topic (Diaz, 1999). This ensures easier acquisition and improvement of learning. In our study, 'transfer" means the vertical relationship between acquisition of a variability of motor skills practice inline-skating and its positive influence on the more demanding and complicated process of alpine skiing.
Duquette (2000) and Roschinsky (2004) explain that a carving turn and an inline-skating turn are similar, therefore when you skate, you improve your skiing skills. This kind of practice is used by skiers when there is no snow (Herrero et al, 2003; Roschinsky, 2004; Miller, 2003), as well as by many national teams that train intensively by inline-skating during the summer (Witherell and Evrard, 1993; Miller, 2003).
To summarize, transfer is the result of acquiring one motor skill that has many applications. This enables athletes to spend time sharpening their existing skills rather than having to develop new ones and improves the relationship between tasks. The amount of transfer produced between two situations depends on the similarities practiced in some tasks and demands on the new ones (Chi et al, 1981, quoted by Cristina and Eljork, 1991).
Schmidt (1958:395) wrote "transfer between tasks is more effective if the first task is learn in optimum performance conditions'', Hence, the reason our prior objective was to achieve a both a high level of skill development and efficiency through more training in inline-skating; which, in turn, results in the further accomplishment of a superior level of the original learning and long term retention (Cristina y Bjork, 1991). Diaz (1999) affirmed that there is a positive transfer when people have learned different basic skills, such as skating or skiing, and then either learn how to skate (inline-skating or ice-skating) or learn any other sport that involves the same skills. Witherell and Evrard (1993) are convinced that inline-skating is the activity that is more closely related to alpine skiing training than any other.

Fifty one students (13.7 years old) received skiing instruction for 5 consecutive days and 1 additional day after a non-practice week. There were 2 groups. the experimental group (EG) (n=.25) who practiced inline-skating for 16 days. and the control group (CG) (nr-26) who practiced basketball and volleyball, as well during physical education classes. Six ski instructors assessed the students' ski ability level by filling out a scale evaluation sheet (1: no, 2: yes. and 3: yes. very well) The test required that students ski their best in groups of 6 on a beginners slope (green run) with no start order and in a random order. The test was also video recorded to enable further analysis.

The data gathered associates the ski level of competence with the same four categories mastered in inline-skating: 1) balance (BAL), which is related to control of the dynamic body mass based on the central position of the ankles, knees and hips on the skiing turns: 2) velocity control (VEL C), which means to control the speed on the descent, and speed up, brake or stop when it is re-quested; 3) trajectory control (TRAJ.C), or the ability to go straight ahead, perform linked turns, garlands, diagonals and combinations; and 4) coordination (COOR) of the upper and lower body: in other words, performing simultaneous arm and leg movements at different angles and space dimensions, as WOO as the correct use of the pole plant.
These categories were measured the fifth day of skiing practice (Sun) and on the rest (RE) one week after no ski practice.

5 Conclusion /
Conclusión.
Groups that have skated previously achieve a higher ski learning level than control groups. That is to say that inline-skating helps to pre-activate and positively transfer the acquisition of the motor skills required for learning to ski when students in high school begin to receive instruction in the sport of alpine skiing. There is a positive transfer of several specific inline-skating skills, for example, jumping, velocity control and trajectory control (related to the rotational pivot of skis and skates alike, as well as the independent and different leg work practiced in both sports, Elling 2003), and further with regard to the acquisition of alpine skiing skills such as learning the process of balance, velocity control and trajectory control. Therefore, correlation or positive transfer exists between both disciplines of study as related to motor skill patterns in high school students.
